Aquaculture activities in the KEJORA Region were intensified in 1984 when KEJORA appointed Universiti Pertanian Malaysia to conduct a preliminary study of water suitability for saltwater and brackish water aquaculture enterprises for farming such as tiger prawns, white prawns, sea bass, grouper and hatcheries. An aquaculture area of 2,660 hectares located along Sungai Lebam, Sungai Bauh Besar and Sungai Papan in Kota Tinggi, Johor.

Objectives of the Aquaculture Program

• To encourage the growth of investment in the aquaculture industry sector in the region
• To commercialize idle land, namely mangrove swamps, to be used as aquaculture project development areas
• To produce food supplies for local markets and exports
• To create employment and income opportunities

Aquaculture development in the KEJORA region has successfully created at least 200 job opportunities. The production of aquaculture products is estimated at 70 metric tons per year with a total investment of more than RM32.0 million, starting from the initial stage of its implementation until now.
